The bath is why many of our guests come. The water rises from the mountain behind the house, and it reaches the tubs without being heated, filtered or recycled: it flows in at one end and out at the other, all day and all night.

The water

Yamanoyu's spring is a simple alkaline hot spring, soft and almost without smell. It leaves the skin smooth, which is why it is called the beauty water in the valley, and it keeps the body warm long after the bath. It comes out of the rock at 52 degrees and is cooled with the cold water of the same mountain, never with tap water, to a bathing temperature of 41 to 42 degrees.

The analysis hangs by the entrance of the baths, as the law asks, with the date of the last measure. It is said to ease tired muscles, stiff shoulders and poor sleep. A bath is not a treatment: stay in for ten minutes, rest, and go back in.

  • The hinoki bath, indoors, in cypress that smells of the forest when it is warm. Six people at most. Open 15:00 to 23:00 and 6:00 to 9:00.
  • The open-air bath, among the rocks above the rice terraces. Cold in winter air, warm in the water, and the best place to watch the snow fall. Same hours.
  • The family bath, a small private cypress tub you reserve by the hour at the desk, free for guests of the house.
  • The baths of two rooms: Sakura has a cypress bath over the rice terraces, and Hinoki, the cabin, a wooden bath of its own on the porch. The spring flows into them like into the others.

Before you go in

Wash and rinse first, on the small stool, before you step into the water. The towel stays out of it: fold it on your head or leave it on the side. Long hair is tied up. Tattoos are welcome, small ones are covered with a seal the desk gives you. Drink a glass of water before and one after, and do not bathe after a large meal or alcohol.
