A carpenter from the valley spent two days on it, and it is already the favourite seat of the house.
The old bench by the bath had held for thirty years. This spring it finally gave up, and the carpenter who built the corridor came back with a single log of hinoki cypress, cut in the valley the winter before.
The wood smells of lemon when it is wet. It will grey slowly, as the corridor has. The bath is open from 15:00 to 23:00 and from 6:00 to 9:00, and the bench is yours between the hot water and the cold.
